Thermocouple Measurement

چکیده
In 1822, Thomas Seebeck, an Estonian physician, accidentally joined semicircular pieces of bismuth and copper (Figure 1) while studying thermal effects on galvanic arrangements. A nearby compass indicated a magnetic disturbance. Seebeck experimented repeatedly with different metal combinations at various temperatures, noting relative magnetic fi eld strengths. Curiously, he did not believe that electric current was fl owing, and preferred to describe the effect as “thermo-magnetism.” He published his results in a paper, “Magnetische Polarisation der Metalle und Erze durch Temperatur-Differenz” (see references).

Effects of thermocouple electrical insulation on the measurement ofᅡᅠsurface temperature
Analytical, numerical and experimental analyses have been performed to investigate the effects of thermocouple wire electrical insulation on the temperature measurement of a reference surface. Two diameters of type K thermocouple, 80 mm and 200 mm, with different exposed wire lengths (0 mm, 5 mm, 10 mm, 15 mm and 20 mm) were used to measure various surface temperatures (4 C, 8 C, 15 C, 25 C and...
متن کاملAn Approach to Thermocouple Measurements That Reduces Uncertainties in High-Temperature Environments
Obtaining accurate temperature measurements with thermocouples in flame environments is challenging due to the effects of radiative heat losses, as these losses are difficult to quantify. Efforts to minimize radiative losses by, for example, suction pyrometry often result in a significant sacrifice in spatial resolution. In this work, a new experimental methodology is presented that both minimi...

متن کاملTemperature Gradients and Materials Properties Measurements using Ultrasonic Guided Waves
A novel technique for the measurement of Elastic Moduli of materials as well as measurement of temperature gradients using ultrasonic waveguides is described here. The range of temperature measurement was from room temperature to maximum utility temperature of waveguides or maximum measurable value of thermocouple temperature, typically beyond 1000°C. In this work, thermocouple wires have been ...
متن کاملUncertainty Analysis of Infrared Thermography in Convective Heat Transfer
Infrared thermography is the preferred choice in many industrial processes for thermal diagnostics, condition monitoring, and non-destructive testing. However, the inherent uncertainty of surface emissivity affects the accuracy of temperature measurement by infrared thermography. In this paper a comprehensive experimental investigation was conducted to assess the uncertainty of infrared thermog...
متن کاملIntegration of thermocouple microelectrode in the scanning electrochemical microscope at variable temperatures: simultaneous temperature and electrochemical imaging and its kinetic studies
We describe herein a method for the simultaneous measurement of temperature and electrochemical signal with a new type of thermocouple microelectrode. The thermocouple microelectrode can be used not only as a thermometer but also as a scanning electrochemical microscope (SECM) tip in the reaction between tip-generated bromine and a heated Cu sample. The influence of temperature on the SECM imag...
